Boiled Plantains : Easy Nigerian Food recipe

Boiled Plantain is one of the easiest Nigerian foods to prepare. It takes a little time and also tastes delicious. It is actually one of my favorite meals . I have to confess that I love plantains *yeah, I’m a confirmed plantain lover*…hehehe. It was one of the first meals I learnt to prepare, so for ”beginners” out there..here is one recipe you can’t go wrong with and kids love it too *wink wink*

Boiled Plantain – ingredients

  • 2 ripe plantains/
  • Unripe plantains (ripe plantains are sweeter, than unripe plantains, and takes less time to cook, but unripe plantains are also great if you’re watching your sugar intake)
  • Salt to taste
  • Water (enough to cover the plantains)

Boiled Plantain- cooking directions*

  • First wash the plantains thoroughly. This is because, you’ll be cooking the plantain with the skin on. I like to use saline water(salt+water) or a mixture of vinegar and water.
  •  Now cut the clean plantains to chunks and place in a pot.
  • Add enough water to cover it , add salt to taste and leave to cook until the plantains are tender. You can check this by pricking it with a fork.If the fork goes in smoothly…your boiled plantain is ready .
  • *Take the plantains out of the water, leave to cool a bit and peel of the skin. You can serve with pepper sauce, tomato stew, obe ata dindin (fried pepper stew), alm oil sauce, or eat alone with groundnuts. ENJOY.

    This is so simple! I wonder how come I never thought to do it. I will use semi green/yellow plantain because I can't stomach the ripe ones. Thanks for the recipe aunty.
