Efo Riro Soup Recipe- authentic and extra delish

Efo riro is the soup for you , If you love a rich, tasty and flavorful soup.

c’mon and excite your palate with this spicy soup

Efo Riro soup recipe first appeared on this website a few years back and was a big favorite among our readers, who also poured in their happy feedbacks .

Even though the old recipe is good as it is, I have updated it a bit and I can tell you that this efo riro soup will bring everyone to your kitchen, even before the soup is ready.

In the old efo riro recipe, I added tomatoes in the preparation, just the way I learned from one of my friends.
But after a few years of recipe testing and with the help of readers like you, I have decided to leave it out in this recipe and make use of only tatashe(bell peppers) and atarodo(scotch bonnet).

Even though there is nothing wrong with tomatoes in efo riro soup, I have noticed that it takes less time to boil the blended peppers down when tomatoes are absent.

Another thing I did differently in this efo riro soup recipe was frying the iru and crayfish in the palm oil.
Oh! Believe me, this step make the utmost difference in the flavor and taste of the soup.

And without much ado, lets’ get down to the recipe; and just in case this is your first time hearing about this soup, here’s a brief except from the older recipe, which also applies to this one.

Efo riro is a traditional Vegetable Soup of the Yoruba Tribe in Nigeria. It is well known for its savory taste and richness.

Efo Riro is prepared with assorted meat, fish, large quantity of green vegetables and peppers(tomatoes are added, sometimes). This is one of my go-to dishes , because I’m a big fan of vegetables. This spicy ,savory soup can be accompanied with  bolus meals, such as Amala, Elubo, Pounded yams, Fufu (akpu), Eba or Tuwo Shinkafa .It also goes pretty well with boiled Rice, plantains or yams.

Although it is a Yoruba soup, Efo Riro is enjoyed in all parts of Nigeria.

If you love healthy soups, this is a must-try….excite your palate with this spicy soup .
